politics

Since the beginning of June our son Steven has been working on getting this man elected to the San Fransisco Board of Supervisors in District 3. His name is Aaron Peskin. He has become a household character in our lives. First our son told us he was disappointed to be working for an "old white guy," having wanted a certain Chinese American woman in the Planning Department to run.

Well this old guy is younger than me! By several years! As time went on it began to be clear that this race was going to be the hotest thing in SF politics this year. Both sides were spending big bucks. The opponent was an old white Mormon Lady who was appointed by Chinese American Mayor Ed Lee to the position vacated midterm.

Her name is Julie Christensen. She is a flunky for big development. She has already spent 1 million dollars on her campaign. Pesky has spent $700,000. He's held the job before in the early 2000's. He's a progressive. WE like him. He's the underdog.

It's interesting. All my nephews are interested in politics. I have always encouraged this passion with Steven. We had a club called the SOS club when he was growing up. We would sit around the table with friends and Savage Our Society. When I was a reporter, I took Steven to all the Board of Supervisor meetings I went to as well as other public meetings in town.

Steven's partner Ashley is working on the campaign as well. She's even pictured in the campaign literature (bottom left). So tommow is the big day. We will learn the effectiveness of my son's strategy on this election. I'm praying to the old white guy upstairs for a victory for the old white guy in SF, District 3.
