politics part 2

And so on Election Night it's all about the Candidate and yet.... From behind the scenes it's a lot about the campaign team. The candidate is just the figure head subject to the devotion or lack there of of  his staff.

So this man Aaron Peskin won the District 3 Supervisor Seat in San Fransisco, a race in which he was the underdog, in large part because of the labors of my son and his partner. My son was the staff member in charge of strategy and Ash was a precinct captain. They both worked their tails off to win this election.

And he won! He won! That's very empowering stuff for the staff. They know it wouldn't have happened without their contributions. The candidate doesn't just win a race on his own charisma. And it is an addictive game. My son starts another campaign just as soon as this one wraps up. He says he loves the stress.

The average time people spend in this type of work is two years. Steven wants to make a career out of it. This was his second race. I barely spoke to him for five months. Steven realizes he's really good at this kind of work. But I hope he moves on to be a candidate himself or a legislative aide. He used to say he wanted to be Mayor of San Fransisco. I endorse him. But I am his mom.
